Here's some information on Elastica's videos.

Note: The majority of the clips aren't held locally, so the links can't always be guaranteed to work. They depend on the other sites keeping the files on-line.

Stutter - 1993 (Version 3 - 1995)

There are three versions of the Stutter video:

Stutter 1: Shot on faded film and looks very amateurish. One camera angle, zooming in and out every now and then. Looks like one shot from beginning to end. The band are standing in front of a plain background. A lot of people don't like this video - I think it's the best of the lot, just because it's so understated and straightforward.

This version of Stutter is the only one of Elastica's videos that is currently available for purchase by the general public. If you're prepared to stump up the cash for tracks from around twenty other bands you can find Stutter on the Brit Awards '96 video:

Stutter 2: Fairly similar setting. There's a lot more cutting and it does have that early 80s effect of band members appearing and disappearing. The pictures on the covers of Line Up and Connection come from this video. Apparently this video has a "Three Girl Rhumba"-like similarity to the Buzzcock's video of What Do I Get.

Stutter 3: This video features film of Elastica's gig in Minneapolis on the spring 1995 US tour along with film of the band out and about somewhere in the States. The video cuts between the gig and various other bits at a very high rate. Anyone who watches it over and over again trying to catch certain bits is liable to end up with a very severe headache.

Line Up - 1994
Very rarely shown. It's all animated, with cut out caricatures of the band. I've only seen it once, so I can't remember all that much about it.

Connection - 1994

There are two very different versions of the Connection video:

Connection 1: The UK video. Another animated one. Similar in style to Line Up, but with video images pasted onto the animations - for instance, there's this TV moving jerkily around a sitting room with Justine singing on it.
Connection 2: US version. The most slick and expensive looking. Cuts between the band in a neon lit studio and a white background with an assortment of naked men.

Waking Up- 1994

Identical in style to Connection 2.

Car Song - 1995

Probably the flashiest and most expensive Elastica video to date. Car Song was filmed in Japan in late 1995. The video was directed by Spike Jonze who has directed a number of other music videos including Weezer's "Buddy Holly".

The video features Justine, Donna & Justin in red vinyl jumpsuit type outfits motoring around Tokyo in a "Back to the Future" type car(?) in pursuit of a ghost(?). The climax is a shoot-out with a cheap looking model of a Godzilla monstery thingy... The video hardly fits the lyrics of the song, but it looks pretty good.

Annie isn't in it because she'd left the band by the time the video was filmed. Whether or not she'd have been up for wearing the sort of tight mini-skirts than Donna & Justine sport in the video is anyone's guess.

The video was shown on MTV in the US long before Car Song's eventual release as a single in Australia in January 1996.
